AB 1501 – Age Verification for Pornography Sites

This bill requires pornographic websites to establish an age verification method to prevent minors from accessing sexually explicit material. If minors access explicit material, parents and guardians can hold the entity liable. The average age of exposure to pornography is 11, and 62% of tweens and 82% of teens report encountering nudity and sexual content online. Science shows minors exposed to porn suffer harm to their mental health, development, body image, and relationships. The Conference affirms that parents have the right and responsibility to be involved as partners in developing policy directly affecting their children, should have the opportunity to communicate with their children about the content they view.
