AB 1128 Child Tax Credit

This bill would remove the requirement that a qualifying child has to be younger than six years of age. Many CalEITC-eligible families with older children no longer qualify for the Child Tax Credit. This is particularly concerning given the recent failure of Congress to reauthorize the much-needed enhancements. This program dramatically lowered the child poverty rate during the COVID-19 pandemic. This credit is meant to address child poverty. That is something that Catholic social teaching is behind. The Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective tools that we have to address child poverty.
