This bill protects the dignity of families and their critically valuable time with incarcerated loved ones by requiring CDCR to, upon a request by a visitor, scan visiting documents into the Strategic Offender Management System (SOMS). This would allow a visitor for an in-person visit or an approved family visit to bring certain items for the visit, including basic and necessary items for infants and toddlers. The current law allows for limited food items for infants and toddlers. The list is inadequate in amounts of food. Often families report that their infants and toddlers are left hungry during visits. Families should never have to choose between time with their incarcerated loved ones and the needs of a hungry child.
