This bill would require each school district, county office of education, and charter school to provide written notice to a pupil’s parent or guardian of their right to examine the curriculum materials of the class or classes in which their child is enrolled. Districts and schools would also be required to post information on that right to their website. The California Catholic Conference advocates for the high-quality education of all California students from early childhood through college. The California Bishops affirm that parents and guardians have both the right and responsibility to be involved in their children’s education. AB 802 would provide the right for parents to be formally notified of what is being taught, not just the right for parents to know and understand.
