AB 249 – School Lead Testing and Mitigation

This bill requires water systems that serve schools to test for lead in the potable (drinking) water and to notify the school if the lead level is too high. The state would allocate money to help schools pay for drinking water testing, water filters, training, and replacing water efficient faucets and fixtures at schools. The California Catholic Conference supports the best school facilities and school environments for all students.  Students deserve a safe and healthy learning environment to ensure high-quality educational outcomes.  The Catholic Bishops of California believe that lead testing is a preventable measure to ensure the safety of students in childcare centers and TK-12 schools.
