Statement from Bishop Gerald Barnes on the Court Ruling Regarding Arizona' Immigration Law
Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
El Tribunal Federal dictaminó hoy sobre la ley del estado de Arizona que pretendía abordar la cuestión de la inmigración entre México y Estados Unidos. Debido a los desafíos legales a esta ley y a la preocupación de muchos, incluyendo nuestra Iglesia, algunas disposiciones clave que permitirían a la policía investigar sobre el estado de inmigración de los residentes de Arizona no entrarán en vigor por el momento.
El Proyecto de Ley del Senado 1070 ha desencadenado fuertes sentimientos y diferentes puntos de vista. Nos ha llevado a una batalla de ideologías cuando nos deberíamos enfocar en cómo reparar un sistema de inmigración que ambas partes reconocen que no funciona.

Pope Benedict cited the current global economic crisis as presenting a particular difficult moment for food security throughout the world. "Rather than an elementary need, access to food is a fundamental right of people," he said. "Even advanced technical solutions lack efficiency if they do not put the person first and foremost." In a statement on World Food Day, Pope Benedict XVI called access to healthy food a "practical expression of the right to life." He stressed the need for the world community to "guarantee people and peoples the possibility of overcoming the scourge of hunger." The Pope also called for farming to have "access to adequate investment and resources."
